The 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen forward was the most notable absence when the list was published on the Super Eagles’ official X account on Friday. His exclusion has raised questions, especially with Nigeria desperate for attacking firepower.
Regular stars such as Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Stanley Nwabali, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze and Calvin Bassey all made the cut for the crucial fixtures.
Chelle also rewarded new talents Felix Agu, Benjamin Fredericks, and Christantus Uche, who impressed at the Unity Cup earlier this year.
Nigeria will host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on September 6 before facing South Africa in Johannesburg on September 9.
With just seven points from six matches, the Super Eagles sit fourth in Group B and must win all their remaining games to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
The full squad includes Stanley Nwabili, William Troost-Ekong, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and others ready for battle.
Yet, it is the Victor Boniface Super Eagles omission that dominates headlines and fan discussions.
