[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Greater Lagos Countdown 2025, held on Wednesday at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square, brought Lagosians together for an unforgettable night of music, celebration, and camaraderie.
Headlined by Nigerian music icons like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Tiwa Savage, the event welcomed 2025 with dazzling performances and vibrant energy.

Organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the celebration drew thousands of attendees from diverse backgrounds, united by their love for music and the shared excitement of ushering in a new year.
Wizkid captivated the audience with his iconic stage presence, performing hit tracks that had fans singing along. Burna Boy delivered his trademark electrifying performance, showcasing unmatched energy and passion.
Tiwa Savage, hailed as the Queen of Afrobeats, wowed the crowd with her sultry vocals and dynamic stage presence.
Niniola added a soulful touch with her emotive and heartfelt performance, while Fuji maestro Adewale Ayuba thrilled fans with classic hits like “Ejo” and “Ijo Fuji.”
Other notable performers included Olamide, Runtown, Bnxn, Nice, and Seyi Vibez, whose performances kept the energy levels soaring throughout the night.
Comedian Gbenga Adeyinka, who hosted the event, delighted the crowd with humour and even taught Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu the trendy ‘Oblee’ dance moves.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu addressed the audience, expressing gratitude to Lagos residents for their resilience and productivity throughout 2024.
“It is an honour to be here again at the Tafawa Balewa Square for the Greater Lagos Countdown 2025. This year, we come together, bigger, better, and brighter.
Your resilience and hard work have made 2024 a year of tremendous opportunities, and I wish you all a prosperous 2025,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also promised more impactful developments across Lagos in 2025, addressing communities like Ajeromi, Ajegunle, Victoria Island, Ajah, and Ibeju-Lekki.
The countdown was not limited to Tafawa Balewa Square but also held simultaneously across Lagos State’s five divisions, ensuring that every community felt included in the celebrations.
The Greater Lagos Countdown 2025 reinforced Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s entertainment capital, combining music, culture, and unity to welcome the New Year in grand style.
