The incident occurred on Tuesday during an episode of TVC’s Your View, where Sowunmi was a guest.
Segun Sowunmi, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 presidential election, is known for his sharp criticism of President Tinubu.
His surprise visit to the president’s home in Lagos over the weekend sparked online uproar and accusations of political inconsistency.
During the show, co-host Yeni Kuti questioned the motive behind the visit, asking pointedly: “You’ve had a lot of criticism for the president, now your tune seems to have changed (after visit). So when is your own move? When are you leaving the PDP to join APC?”
Clearly irked, Sowunmi responded: “Although I cannot see who is asking those questions, I didn’t come to your programme so you can try to be cheeky with me, stop that.”
To which Kuti replied curtly: “I can’t be cheeky with you because I’m sure that I’m older than you.”
Sowunmi quickly attempted to de-escalate the tension: “Oh sister oo! My Aunty! I take that back. Please don’t be angry.”
But Kuti firmly retorted, “I’m not your aunty.”
The on-air clash quickly gained traction online, with viewers divided between those defending Kuti’s questioning and others criticising her tone.

While Sowunmi has not officially declared any plans to leave the PDP, his visit has fuelled speculation of a possible realignment.
