According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, the suspect, Mike James Habila, claimed that the seized firearms belonged to an individual named Samson Irimiya. Irimiya had been previously arrested and is currently in detention undergoing an investigation.

The arrest took place on January 13, 2024, around 2 pm, when detectives from C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the DPO SP Abubakar Pindiga, acted on the vigilante group’s information. During the operation, Habila was apprehended at his student residence in Gubi village, Bauchi. Preliminary investigations revealed that the student had in his possession a locally-made gun, a locally-made pistol, and 9mm live ammunition.

In his confession during interrogation, Habila implicated Samson Irimiya, alleging that the firearms belonged to him. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed, and further investigations are underway to address all related cases of illegal firearms possession in Bauchi.

This incident follows the arrest of a 300-level student of ATBU, Atim Emmanuel, a month ago, who was found in possession of a revolver pistol and a cartridge while leaving the university campus.

In another development, the Bauchi State Police Command is handling a case involving criminal breach of trust, forgery, criminal misappropriation, and obtaining money under pretense. The case was reported at the Area Command by Abdulrahman Auwal.

The victims reportedly entrusted N663,000 to Timothy Oseni of Yelwa Anguwan Kusu Bauchi for their school fees registration in his business center located within the ATBU, Bauchi, Yelwa campus compound. Detectives from the Area Command Metro arrested the accused, and preliminary investigations revealed that Oseni forged multiple registration slips for ATBU students.
