The United Kingdom Government has launched a new knife crime prevention campaign in parts of London, warning offenders of intensified police operations involving metal detection, live facial recognition technology and additional patrols.

The campaign, tagged ‘No Place for Knives’, was launched on Monday, November 2, 2026, in Westminster and Croydon, with advertisements planned for Tube stations, bus stops, social media platforms and a mural at Boxpark Croydon.

In a statement published on Monday, the Home Office said the initiative was designed to discourage knife-related offences in identified crime hotspots and raise public awareness of increased policing activities.

The enforcement measures include expanded metal detection operations, rapid-response electric bikes, additional foot patrols and the use of live facial recognition technology.

The campaign is also being piloted in Birmingham city centre.

According to the Home Office, the initiative was developed in collaboration with police forces and local authorities, with particular attention to people considered most at risk of committing knife-related offences.

The department said Westminster, Croydon and 16 other London boroughs had received more than £8.1m through its Knife Crime Concentrations Fund to support targeted interventions.

The funding covers enforcement activities as well as preventive measures, including youth outreach programmes and visible safety patrols in busy night-time economy areas.

The Home Office also reported a decline in knife-related offences since the General Election.

It said knife crime had fallen by 11 per cent, while knife-related homicides dropped by 25 per cent and knife-enabled robbery declined by 18 per cent.

In London, the department reported a 14 per cent reduction in knife crime, alongside declines of 34 per cent in knife-related homicides and 19 per cent in knife-enabled robbery over the same period.

Policing and Crime Minister Sarah Jones said residents of Westminster and Croydon deserved to feel safe in their communities.

“Everyone in Westminster and Croydon deserves to feel safe on their streets. We know that hearing of knife crime incidents happening in your city can have the opposite effect and we want to stop that,” she said.

Jones added that the government was working with police to tackle knife crime in areas where it caused the greatest harm.

“‘No Place for Knives’ sends a clear message: action is being taken and we will not accept people putting young lives and our communities at risk,” she said.

The initiative forms part of the government’s wider ambition to halve knife crime within a decade through stronger enforcement, prevention and early intervention.

Metropolitan Police Commander Pete Stevens said knife crime had devastating consequences for victims, their families and communities.

He said officers were directing resources towards individuals considered most likely to pose a threat.

Stevens also reported that knife-enabled crime had fallen by 14.9 per cent across London in the previous financial year, while hospital admissions following attacks involving sharp weapons had declined by 29 per cent over five years.

The Director of Operations at Crimestoppers, Mick Duthie, encouraged members of the public to share information about knife carrying and violence through the organisation’s anonymous reporting channels.

He said information from the public could help prevent attacks, protect young people and make neighbourhoods safer.

Patrick Green, Chief Executive Officer of the Ben Kinsella Trust, also welcomed the campaign, particularly its involvement of young people in the development process.

Green said young people understood the pressures, anxieties and misconceptions that could influence decisions to carry knives.

He added that incorporating their experiences into the initiative could help encourage safer choices and strengthen efforts to prevent violence.
