In response to the recent announcement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu regarding the launch of an electronic Geographic Information System (e-GIS) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the last election, has expressed commendation for the initiative.
Recall that the governor announced the launch of e-GIS in the state, a portal that would serve as a comprehensive digital platform, ushering in a new era of efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in the land acquisition process.

In a statement, Rhodes-Vivour lauded the efforts of all those involved in bringing the e-GIS portal to fruition.
He acknowledged the potential of the system to eradicate land fraud, tackle racketeering, and curb hooliganism within the real estate sector. The Labour Party candidate emphasised that with political will backing this endeavour, it could significantly contribute to enhancing transparency in real estate development and ultimately lead to an increase in the housing stock.
“This is quite laudable, and kudos to all involved. If seen through,this will put an end to land fraud, racketeering and hooliganism. With political will behind this, It will bring ease and transparency to real estate development and increase our housing stock, thereby reducing the cost of housing for our people,” he wrote.
Reflecting on past attempts, Rhodes-Vivour recalled Senator Ashafa’s efforts to implement a similar system during his tenure as the Executive Secretary of Lands, which faced resistance from vested interests.
“I know that Senator Ashafa tried to implement something similar as Executive Secretary of Lands but was resisted by vested interest. I hope that this does not meet a similar fate. We look forward to it being open to the public and its implementation. Once again, well done. #ourlagos,” Rhodes-Vivour concluded.
