The Minister for Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has denied reports that the Federal Government instructed telecommunication companies to tamper with their networks during the August 1 protest.
Many Nigerians reported experiencing poor telephone network connections during the protest. However, during an interview on Channels TV last night, Tijani clarified that no such instructions were given by the government.
“There is no instruction to tamper with the network. Absolutely no instruction,” Tijani stated. He explained that high traffic due to many people being online simultaneously could be a factor, although he admitted he had not conducted a technical assessment to confirm this.
Tijani emphasized that any network issues were not due to government intervention.
