Abdulraham Mai Kadama, the senior special assistant on entrepreneurship to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, has officially resigned from his position and defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His defection was confirmed following a meeting with Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin in Abuja on Wednesday.

Before his defection, Mr Mai Kadama held significant roles within the NNPP, including leadership positions in the Kwankwasiyya movement in Plateau State and the G-6 in Kano State. His switch to the APC marks a notable shift in Kano State’s political landscape.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Deputy Senate President Jibrin welcomed Mr Mai Kadama to the APC, praising his decision as a commitment to promoting good governance and accelerating development in Kano State and Nigeria at large.

“Today, Mai Kadama Kwankwasiyya was in my residence in Abuja, where he dumped the red cap and joined the largest political party in Africa, APC. With the change of party, he announced that he is now Mai Kadama Maliya,” Jibrin wrote, referring to the former NNPP member’s symbolic gesture of shedding the trademark red cap associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Mr Mai Kadama also announced his resignation from his role as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entrepreneurship II, urging his political associates to join him in the APC. He emphasized that the APC is the only party genuinely dedicated to enhancing the standard of living for Nigerians.
