[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Ogun State government, through its Environmental Protection Agency, has sealed five industries for violating environmental laws and endangering surrounding communities by discharging untreated wastewater.
This action follows numerous petitions from affected communities and was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by Farook Akintunde, Chairman of the Ogun State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment.

The sealed companies include Nixim Paper Limited, Long Xiang Aluminum, New Shidai Manufacturing Limited, and two unregistered companies operating illegally.
Located along the Sagamu axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and in Mowe, the businesses failed to comply with directives from the state Environmental Protection Agency to halt their environmentally harmful activities.
Akintunde explained that the companies had been ordered to stop production and rectify their practices, including the installation of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) to treat wastewater, but they ignored these warnings. In the interest of public safety, the state government took decisive action to shut them down.
Dr Oluwadare Kehinde, Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environmental Protection Agency, emphasised the importance of adhering to wastewater regulations to prevent pollution and ensure water quality.
He also stated that the unregistered companies must complete their registration and fulfil other obligations before resuming operations.
