Oluwatuyi Olasoji, NULGE chairman in Akure South, tragically passed away after collapsing while waiting in a long fuel queue amidst Nigeria’s fuel scarcity.

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]luwatuyi Olasoji, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Akure South, Ondo State, has tragically died after collapsing while waiting in a lengthy fuel queue.

The incident occurred at a petrol station in Akure, as Nigeria continues to grapple with a worsening fuel scarcity crisis.

Olasoji collapsed last week while waiting in line and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for emergency surgery.

Despite doctors’ efforts, he sadly passed away on Monday, September 9. The ongoing fuel shortage has caused long queues, traffic congestion, and a sharp rise in transport fares, leaving many commuters stranded.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) assured that the fuel scarcity would ease in a few days, attributing the issue to market deregulation and the exchange rate.

Relief is anticipated with petrol lifting from the Dangote Refinery, expected to begin on September 15, which could help resolve the recurring fuel shortages.
