This competition has been the launching pad for many talented athletes, including those who have gone on to represent Nigeria on global stages such as the AfroBasket and the Basketball World Cup.

The most recent triumph was the national team, D’Tigress, securing their fourth consecutive AfroBasket title. They also surprised the world at the Basketball World Cup with their outstanding performance.
At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, D’Tigress earned a place in the quarterfinals after defeating top teams like Australia and Canada. Their head coach, Rene Wakama, was honoured as the best coach of the tournament.
Murjanatu Musa, one of the star players from the Olympics, was the MVP of the 2022 Zenith Bank National Women’s Basketball League, demonstrating the league’s role in developing world-class talent.

Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Adaora Umeoji, highlighted the organisation’s pride in supporting the sport.
She emphasised that the investment in basketball is paying off, particularly in empowering the women’s national team to compete globally.
As the 2024 season begins, the bank remains committed to nurturing future stars, with the second phase of the league scheduled for September.
