In a surprising turn of events, the much-hyped Hamster Kombat airdrop has resulted in widespread disappointment among Nigerian users.

The crypto-mining app had been trending for months, promising life-changing rewards to its dedicated users. After five months of relentless tapping, many had high hopes of becoming millionaires, only to be met with payouts ranging from a mere $1 to $4.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the highest earners received between $7 and $17, far below the expectations set by the coin’s promoters. Social media is now flooded with angry reactions, with users lamenting the meagre returns on their investment of time and effort.

The campaign, which had promised to elevate everyday Nigerians to billionaire status, has instead sparked outrage and accusations of deception.

Hamster Kombat, launched in March 2024, had its much-anticipated coin launch announced on Thursday. The official X account, #hamster_kombat, shared the news, encouraging users to trade smartly as $HMSTR trading began.

Despite the initial excitement, the reality of the payouts quickly set in, leading to widespread disillusionment.

Netizens have taken to various platforms to express their frustration. One user, Geoffrey Nwankpa, expressed his anger by declaring it “hunting season” for anything resembling a hamster. Others echoed similar sentiments, with some sarcastically dubbing themselves “CEOs of dust.”

The launch of Hamster Kombat has become a cautionary tale for many, highlighting the risks involved in the volatile world of cryptocurrency.

While the market cap of the coin stands at $535.3 million, the bitter reality for users is far from the promised riches.
