PDP rejects Ondo election result

The PDP rejects the results of the Ondo gubernatorial election, accusing INEC of electoral misconduct and pledging to challenge APC’s victory in court.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the outcome of the Ondo State gubernatorial election, vowing to challenge the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) through legal action.

This statement comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC as the winner of the election on Sunday.

Aiyedatiwa secured a total of 366,781 votes, defeating the PDP’s candidate, Ajayi Agboola, who garnered 117,845 votes.

Despite the announcement, the PDP has raised concerns over the integrity of the election, claiming that the process was marred by irregularities and actions intended to compromise the will of the people.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Ayo Fadaka, the special adviser to Agboola, the PDP accused INEC of allowing “unabated criminality” to influence the election.

The party stated that the electoral commission failed in its duty to protect the people’s votes and ensure a fair and transparent process.

The PDP’s statement expressed their belief that democracy cannot thrive in such an environment, where electoral malpractices undermine the will of the electorate.

“We have uncovered lots of actions undertaken to compromise the electoral desires of the people,” the statement read, highlighting their dissatisfaction with the process.

In light of these allegations, the PDP has announced that it will take legal action to contest the results. The party insists that the victory claimed by Aiyedatiwa was illegitimate and that the mandate was “stolen” from the people of Ondo State.

The statement concluded with a note of hope, stating, “We are hopeful that man and God, who is the ultimate, will give us justice.”

The PDP’s decision to seek legal recourse underscores the party’s determination to ensure what it considers a fair and just electoral process.
