[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P and a member of the iconic duo P-Square, has refuted allegations by rising singer Darkoo that he sabotaged her music video for “Focus on Me.”
The video was temporarily removed from YouTube due to copyright concerns over its use of a P-Square sample.

Darkoo recently accused Mr. P of having her music video taken down for six days, claiming the act was deliberate.
However, in a statement from his management team, One Management, Mr. P clarified that the issue arose because the song incorporated elements of P-Square’s hit track, “Gimme Dat,” without proper clearance.
The statement explained that Mr. P had advised Darkoo on the necessary procedures to secure permission for the sample, even sharing insights from his own experiences.
Despite this guidance, Darkoo allegedly failed to respond to messages and calls seeking confirmation of clearance. Consequently, the video was uploaded without the required authorisation, prompting its temporary removal.
The matter was resolved after Darkoo and her team signed an agreement with all involved parties. Once clearance was secured, the video was reinstated on YouTube.
Mr. P’s management dismissed the allegations of sabotage as “malicious” and accused Darkoo of attempting to tarnish his reputation.
The statement further suggested that Darkoo’s public reaction came after the video’s reinstatement, hinting at a potential publicity stunt.
The dispute highlights the importance of proper licensing in the music industry, particularly when sampling existing works.
While tensions between the two artists have made headlines, the resolution serves as a reminder of the need for professionalism and collaboration in creative endeavours.
