Rotary District 9112 humanitarian projects

Rotary District 9112 plans to invest over N500m in humanitarian projects in 2025, focusing on community development and global impact

[dropcap]R[/dropcap]otary International District 9112 has announced plans to invest over N500 million in humanitarian services in 2025, reinforcing its commitment to community development and global impact.

The district governor, Rotarian Femi Adenekan, made this revelation during a press conference in Lagos as part of a week-long celebration marking Rotary’s 120th anniversary.

He highlighted the organisation’s past achievements and outlined future initiatives aimed at improving lives across local communities.

Adenekan disclosed that a significant portion of the funds—between N200 million and N300 million—would be allocated to constructing a vocational training centre.

The facility aims to equip individuals with essential skills, fostering economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.

“So far, we’ve invested about N200 to N300 million in various community impact projects. We plan to continue our efforts, and by the end of this Rotary year, we hope to surpass N500 million in total humanitarian spending,” Adenekan stated.

He emphasised that this budget excludes additional contributions from individual Rotary clubs within District 9112, which have independently planned their own projects for the 2024-2025 Rotary year.

Reflecting on the 120th anniversary, Adenekan highlighted the significant global influence of Rotary International, which operates across 200 countries and geographical locations.

“Rotary has over 55,000 clubs and 520 districts worldwide, driving initiatives that improve lives through our seven key focus areas: peacebuilding, disease prevention, maternal and child health, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, basic education, and literacy,” he explained.

He also urged the Federal Government to provide tax waivers for Rotary’s funding partners, allowing greater financial support for humanitarian initiatives across Nigeria.

As part of the milestone celebration, Gboyega Bade, past president and chair of the 120th-anniversary committee, announced that a global webinar would be held to discuss the theme: “Rotary in World Peace and Security.”
