Hon. Hannatu Musa Musawa was honoured by the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce for her visionary leadership in Nigeria’s creative and cultural sectors

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]on. Hannatu Musa Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism & Creative Economy, has been honoured with the Excellence in Cultural Development & Creative Economy Leadership Award by the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC).

The recognition came during the Chamber’s 65th Anniversary Dinner and the inauguration of its 20th President, Alhaji Sheriff Balogun, held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.

Themed “The Power of Co-operation: 65 Years of Optimizing Nigerian-American Economic Relations,” the prestigious event spotlighted leaders contributing to bilateral trade and national development. Hon. Musawa was celebrated for her visionary leadership in advancing Nigeria’s cultural assets and leveraging the creative economy for national growth.

Represented by Tola Akerele, Director General of the National Theatre, Hon. Musawa was commended for fostering artistic innovation, promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage, and driving global recognition of the country’s arts, fashion, and entertainment sectors.

According to the Chamber, “Her dedication to the creative economy has positioned Nigeria as a global leader in cultural excellence and innovation.”

The event also marked significant milestones, including the unveiling of the NACC’s new multi-storey headquarters and the induction of 52 new members.

In his inaugural speech, Alhaji Balogun reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to economic development, outlining a vision built on “Expansion, Innovation, and Impact,” with special focus on SME growth, trade promotion, and bilateral missions.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Cooperatives, praised the Chamber for its continued efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economic position through strategic cooperation.

Also honoured were Prime Minister Americo D’Oliveira Dos Ramos of São Tomé and Príncipe, Chief Michael AdeOjo, Arthur Eze, Chief Pius Akinyelure, and others. The Chamber paid posthumous tributes to former U.S. Ambassador Walter Carrington, Mr. Richard Kramer, and Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston.

Founded in 1960, the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce is West Africa’s oldest bilateral chamber, facilitating trade and investments between Nigeria and the United States through high-level dialogue and member-driven initiatives.
