Tinubu FBI records

The FBI and DEA have jointly requested a 90-day extension to submit investigative records relating to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, moving the expected date to July 31

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have filed a joint motion requesting a 90-day extension to submit investigative records concerning Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The request comes in the wake of a prior U.S. court-ordered deadline of May 2. Both agencies now indicate they will require until July 31, 2025, to complete the process of identifying and producing responsive documents tied to longstanding public interest in President Tinubu’s alleged historical ties to law enforcement matters in the U.S.

The development forms part of a broader Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case brought by transparency advocates and legal professionals seeking access to declassified investigative materials.

While the agencies have not publicly detailed the specific nature of the documents, the case has drawn international attention due to President Tinubu’s political standing.

Legal experts say such extensions are not uncommon in complex or multi-agency FOIA cases, particularly when dealing with archival material or sensitive law enforcement information.

As of now, there has been no official response from President Tinubu or the Nigerian government regarding the extension request.
