At a plenary session held last Thursday, the House approved compensation for communities affected by state land acquisitions, including the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to 68 identified areas.

The decision followed a petition submitted by Hon. Noheem Adams on behalf of the Oriba Community in Epe, seeking to join the petition initiated by Ladaba Community.

The House adopted the report presented by the Committee on Rules and Business and resolved that the Lands Bureau must present proper documentation on the acquired lands.

Lawmakers commended the committee for securing justice for affected communities and suggested increasing compensation from 20% to 25%.

However, Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa endorsed the allocation of 20% (2,000 hectares) of the acquired 10,000 hectares as compensation, citing the state government’s existing plans.

“The resolution reflects our commitment to justice and equitable development across Lagos communities,” Obasa said.

The committee was also tasked to work with the Lands Bureau, Office of the State Surveyor General, and New Towns Development Authority to ensure seamless implementation.
