Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) achieves full accreditation for all 25 programmes presented to the NUC

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has secured full accreditation for all 25 academic programmes it presented to the National Universities Commission (NUC) during the October/November 2024 Accreditation Exercise; an outstanding feat that reflects the institution’s academic excellence and strategic development.

The NUC’s results, contained in a letter with reference number NUC/ES/412/VOL.14/387 and signed by Engr. Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, revealed that 22 programmes received full accreditation (88%), while three earned interim status (12%).

Importantly, no programme was denied accreditation; an achievement few universities can claim, particularly at such an early stage of institutional growth.

The results affirm the academic rigour, thorough preparation, and resourceful leadership under Vice Chancellor Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya.

Notable successes were recorded across all colleges, including the College of Applied Social Sciences (CASS), where all six programmes; Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, Actuarial Science, Banking and Finance, and Office and Information Management; received full accreditation with scores ranging from 86.9% to 95.6%.

In the College of Agriculture, five programmes, including Animal Science, Crop Science, Agricultural Extension, Fisheries, and Horticulture, achieved accreditation with scores above 80%.

Agricultural Economics and Farm Management was awarded interim status, largely due to staffing limitations despite an overall score of 80.9%.

The College of Basic Sciences also impressed, with Physics with Electronics and Mathematics earning the highest scores of 96.6% each.

Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry received interim status due to staffing challenges, even though their overall scores exceeded 80%.

Equally remarkable were the performances from the Colleges of Environmental Sciences and Social Sciences/Administration.

Programmes like Mass Communication (92.7%), Industrial Design (95.6%), and Economics (97.4%) were among the best-performing across the university.

Speaking on the success, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Lanre Kuye, expressed the institution’s pride and appreciation:

“This milestone is a testament to the hard work of our staff and students. We dedicate this success to our Visitor, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, whose unwavering support has propelled us forward. Our gratitude also extends to the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, and the Governing Council led by Professor Rasheed Kola Ojikutu.”

Vice Chancellor Odusanya echoed the sentiment, adding:

“As Vice-Chancellor, I remain deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this feat. With 14 new programmes lined up for future accreditation, we are committed to raising the bar even higher.”
