The EFCC has vehemently denied claims by Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, alleging a secret meeting between its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and an unnamed governor prior to a defection, labeling the accusations as fabricated and in bad taste

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed outrage over what it describes as “unfounded claims” made by Mr. Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Ibe, a guest on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Thursday, May 22, 2025, had alleged a secret meeting between the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and an unnamed politician.

According to the EFCC’s statement, Ibe’s allegations included a purported meeting between Mr. Olukoyede and the Solicitor General of the Federation with an unnamed governor, occurring just forty-eight hours before the governor’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The public is enjoined to disregard the alleged meeting with the unnamed Governor as it only exists in the imagination of Ibe.

The anti-graft agency vehemently denied these claims, labeling them as “patently fabricated and in bad taste.”

“Olukoyede has stressed it at several fora that he is apolitical and the EFCC totally wired against partisan tendencies,” the Commission stated, reiterating its commitment to impartiality.
