The deceased, identified as Mr Louis Nwachukwu, was reportedly a staff member of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

He was said to have checked into a hotel in the Mpape area of Abuja, accompanied by a woman later identified as Miss Helen Raymond.

Mr Nwachukwu’s lifeless body was discovered the next morning by hotel staff. According to preliminary reports, the pair lodged together, but only Miss Raymond was seen leaving the room before staff raised the alarm.

Eyewitnesses suggest that she left the premises in a hurry, drawing the attention of security personnel who subsequently notified the authorities.

The police confirmed the incident and said they had begun a thorough investigation. “We have launched an investigation to determine what truly happened that night,” a police spokesperson confirmed on Monday.

The hotel room has since been sealed off as part of the forensic examination.

The news has left colleagues and friends of Mr Nwachukwu in shock. A staff member at the Transmission Company described him as hardworking and reserved.

His family has been informed, and arrangements are being made for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Miss Raymond’s whereabouts remain unknown at the time of reporting. Police have urged members of the public with any useful information to assist in tracing her as a person of interest in the case.

The case has added to growing concerns about safety and accountability in hospitality establishments across Abuja.
