Ebonyi Legacy FM GM Suspension

Legacy FM, Ebonyi State, has suspended its acting GM, Godfrey Chikwere, over alleged negative broadcasts and social media posts criticising Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration

Legacy FM, a privately-owned radio station in Ebonyi State, has suspended its acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, over alleged persistent negative coverage of Governor Francis Nwifuru and his policies.

The management announced the decision on Saturday, citing “unruly behaviour” and “disobedience” to the station’s code of conduct. Chikwere was directed to hand over all company property to the next senior officer.

The controversy follows a Facebook post by Chikwere on Friday, in which he accused the governor’s administration of poor communication, underperformance by appointees, and lack of clear policy direction.

He urged Nwifuru to “step on toes” to deliver results, claiming current affairs were eroding the governor’s support base.

Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, condemned the remarks, calling them baseless and ungrateful, noting the state government had supported Legacy FM with a Changan SUV, a new transformer, and road construction to the station.

State Commissioner for Information, Ikeuwa Omebeh, also criticised Chikwere’s comments as “derogatory and inciting,” saying they were an affront to the people of Ebonyi.
