The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, confirmed that 333 suspects were charged on Monday before Magistrate Courts 20, 27, and 44 at Nomansland, as well as Magistrate Courts 8 and 53 at Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano.

According to him, the suspects face prosecution for criminal conspiracy, disorderly conduct, intimidation, possession of offensive weapons, loitering after voting, destruction of election materials, solicitation for votes, and other electoral offences.

Bakori revealed that exhibits recovered from the arrested suspects include one pump-action rifle, five locally made guns, 94 sticks, 16 swords, 18 cutlasses, 32 locally made “barandami” weapons, 28 knives, a bow and 23 arrows, as well as vehicles, ballot boxes, 163 thumb-printed ballot papers, and ₦4,048,000 in cash.

“The elections, conducted under challenging circumstances, witnessed attempts by unscrupulous individuals to disrupt the process through massive importation of thugs from within and outside the state,” the CP said.

He assured that the Kano election thugs will face justice, stressing that the police command remains committed to protecting democracy and holding offenders accountable.
