Regatta celebration by Olu of Warri stirs cultural pride as royal voyage to Ode-Itsekiri marks a powerful highlight of his 4th coronation anniversary

Regatta celebration by Olu of Warri unfolded in a spectacular display of unity and tradition, as His Majesty, Ògíamè Atuwatse III, CFR, led a powerful ancestral voyage to Ode-Itsekiri as part of his 4th coronation anniversary celebrations.

The event served as a living expression of cultural heritage, reaffirming the strength and continuity of the Iwere (Itsekiri) nation under his enlightened reign.

The Olu of Warri, dressed in regal splendor, sailed at the helm in a symbolic red royal boat, leading a majestic flotilla across the waterways to the kingdom’s spiritual homeland, Ode-Itsekiri.

Each boat that followed was adorned with colors and emblems representing distinct families, communities, and titles—signaling unity in diversity and a collective embrace of Itsekiri heritage.

This regatta celebration by Olu of Warri was both ceremonial and strategic, bridging the past and the future while showcasing the dignity of the Warri throne.

Upon reaching Big Warri (Ode-Itsekiri), the sacred island where the throne was first established, high-ranking chiefs, subjects, and cultural custodians gathered in a deeply traditional homage-paying ritual.

Songs, drumming, and ancestral rites echoed through the gathering, reaffirming loyalty to the crown and honouring the spiritual roots of the Itsekiri kingdom.

To connect the global Itsekiri community and cultural enthusiasts, the Olu of Warri’s regatta celebration was broadcast live on his official YouTube channel.

Tomorrow’s grand finale of the coronation celebration will also be streamed, allowing participation from across Nigeria and the diaspora.

The regatta marked a high point in the ongoing celebration of the Olu’s 4th year on the throne.

Since his ascension in 2021, Ògíamè Atuwatse III has been praised for his commitment to modern leadership guided by cultural wisdom and ancestral connection.
