The disturbing incident was said to have occurred on August 24 in Ado-Ekiti. According to the prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, the accused lured the victim and her elder sibling to run an errand.

On their return, he reportedly asked the older child to leave but kept the younger girl behind, during which the assault allegedly took place.

Bamikole urged the court to remand the teenager pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He noted that the alleged offence violated Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The plea of the defendant was not taken during the arraignment at the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Presiding Chief Magistrate Adefunke Anoma ordered the remand of the suspect until legal guidance is issued. The case was adjourned to October 14 for mention.

The Ado-Ekiti defilement case has drawn sharp reactions from the public, with many condemning the alleged act and calling for justice.

Child rights advocates have also emphasized the urgent need for stronger community awareness and protection for minors.
