The drama started when a bus stop in Lagos previously named after him was quietly renamed “Baddo Bus Stop”, allegedly in reference to another celebrity. While fans argued over the snub, Charly Boy was quietly battling his own emotional spiral.

“Life is a bitch, then we die,” he wrote in a candid post, before revealing how the incident pushed him dangerously close to depression. In a desperate attempt to find peace, Charly Boy said he had to japa—travel out of Nigeria—to Europe, visiting his brother, the legendary singer Dr Alban.

“I was to spend 3 weeks recharging,” he shared. “Only after 10 days, body begin scratch me. Couldn’t even do 2 weeks complete. I don run come back.”

The emotional honesty didn’t end there. Charly Boy admitted the break helped, but he was haunted by thoughts of those without the same privilege.

In a society where mental health is still largely stigmatized, Charly Boy’s message is a powerful one. He reminded fans that even strong personalities can break, and there’s no shame in speaking up.

“If Area Fada fit admit say sometimes e dey choke, you too no need to pretend. Speak up, breathe, find your way back.”
