Elon Musk to open comment sections becomes a viral call as users demand political figures on X allow replies to uphold transparency and democratic discourse

Elon Musk to open comment sections — that’s the central demand echoing across X, as users grow increasingly vocal over the platform’s approach to political speech.

The conversation exploded after user Adam Brimson Designs publicly addressed Elon Musk, urging him to ensure that political figures on X can no longer disable replies on their posts.

The catalyst was a post by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, whose locked comment section drew sharp criticism.

“Hi @elonmusk,” Brimson wrote, “I once again ask you to please unlock all comment sections of political figures. This goes against our democratic right to respond to their nonsense directly, and take part in discourse.”

His post struck a nerve. The thread accused elected officials of dodging public accountability and branded reply restrictions as a form of digital censorship.

“Political figures that turn off comments are scared of the people who pay them,” he added.

Brimson’s critique was particularly biting toward Khan: “There is absolutely no reason why the @MayorofLondon would need to turn off comments. Surely he would like to know how wonderful and safe his city is and what a great job he is doing?”

He went further, stating that political leaders “don’t have the right to cower away behind a keyboard,” and insisted that if they are using public funds to push controversial statements, then they must face direct feedback.

The demand that Elon Musk to open comment sections has resonated with users across political lines. Brimson made clear that his frustration would apply equally to right-wing politicians.

“The people have a right to show their support or disagreement,” he wrote. “It would be better for a political figure to know instantly what the people think. X is a real-time platform. It should be used to that advantage.”

His concluding note: “Grey checks, open comments.”

The post quickly went viral, highlighting a growing concern that digital platforms are allowing public figures to sidestep real accountability.

And with Elon Musk’s strong stance on free speech, many are now watching to see whether he will step in.

The call for Elon Musk to open comment sections isn’t just about replies — it’s about ensuring the public can participate in the democratic conversation, in real time, without barriers.
