Ondo Amotekun arrests 51 suspects

Ondo Amotekun arrests 51 suspects across 18 LGAs in a security sweep tackling kidnapping, trafficking, rape, and robbery

Ondo Amotekun arrests 51 suspects in a sweeping state-wide operation targeting criminal activities across all 18 Local Government Areas, including remote forest regions.

The suspects were paraded on Friday at the Akure headquarters of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps.

Established in 2020 as a regional security response to worsening insecurity in the South-West, Amotekun Corps has increasingly intensified its efforts to safeguard lives and property in Ondo State.

State Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the arrested individuals were involved in a variety of offences including kidnapping, rape, human trafficking, anti-open grazing violations, and breach of public peace.

“Today, we are parading 51 suspects arrested from different parts of Ondo State. Among them are six major kidnap suspects and 37 linked to general disorder,” Adeleye disclosed.

One of the suspects arrested is reportedly an armourer of a kidnapping ring who confessed to five high-profile abductions.

Others masqueraded as hawkers or metal pickers, but were allegedly providing intelligence to criminal networks.

A notable arrest included a known ex-convict, Agu Joseph, who escaped from the Okitipupa Custodial Centre only to reoffend before being apprehended again by Amotekun operatives.

Adeleye confirmed that 35 of the 51 suspects will be charged in court, while others will undergo internal resolution processes, pending further interrogation.

The Amotekun commander sent a firm message to criminal elements: “Ondo State is not a safe haven for crime. Pack your bags and leave.

We are committed to keeping this state secure for honest residents and investors.”

With this renewed show of force, the Amotekun Corps continues to serve as a strong deterrent against insecurity in Ondo, giving residents and stakeholders confidence in regional protection strategies.
