African Democratic Congress condemns President Tinubu’s slow response to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, calling for urgent leadership and action.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sharply criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it terms a lack of urgency in tackling Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.

In a statement on Sunday, signed by ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused President Tinubu of prioritising political and social engagements while violence, kidnappings, and unrest continue to surge nationwide.

“The ADC is deeply disturbed by the brazen insensitivity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the growing insecurity in the country,” the statement said.

The party highlighted recent violent attacks in Kwara State, where armed bandits forced residents to pay ransoms in food and cash, as well as deadly incidents in Kogi State involving killings and abductions.

It also referenced the closure of over 180 schools across northern Nigeria due to security concerns.

“These reports are part of a broader and bloodier pattern,” the ADC stated. “From Plateau to Zamfara, Benue to Niger, Kaduna to Kwara, incidents of mass abductions, violent attacks, and forced displacement continue to rise.”

The ADC condemned the President for attending funerals and political ceremonies amid the crisis, saying it projects an image of prioritising political appearances over the safety of citizens.

The opposition party further criticised Tinubu’s recent remarks in Jos, where he claimed his mission was to unite Nigerians, describing such comments as empty political rhetoric.

“Symbolism of national unity cannot replace the responsibility to truly unite with simple actions such as showing up wherever the people need you, not only during political events,” the ADC said.

To address the security challenges, the party called on the government to acknowledge the scale of the crisis, engage directly with affected communities, strengthen joint military and police operations, and publish regular security updates.

“Nigeria is under attack. This administration must stop treating national security as a political talking point and start treating it as a governing priority.

The lives of Nigerians must matter more than soundbites and ceremonies,” the statement concluded.
