Police in Bauchi arrest a 17-year-old boy and five others for plucking out his sister’s eyes in a shocking money ritual attempt
The Bauchi ritual eye-plucking case has sent shockwaves across Nigeria after police arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwal Dahiru, and five others for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, in a suspected money ritual attempt.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the horrifying incident occurred in Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson Ahmed Wakil confirmed in a statement on Monday that the case was reported on October 17, 2025, by the victim’s father, Muhammad Adamu, at the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Rukayya tragically lost her eyesight permanently after her brother Auwal lured her into the bush and removed both eyes in a desperate attempt to gain wealth,” Wakil said.
He added that detectives, led by Divisional Police Officer Aliyu Goni, swiftly arrested the suspect, while the young girl was taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where doctors confirmed she would never regain her vision.
Other suspects linked to the Bauchi ritual eye-plucking case include Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43).
Wakil disclosed that all suspects voluntarily confessed during interrogation, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full motive and possible masterminds behind the heinous crime.
He condemned the act as “barbaric and deeply disturbing,” stressing that the command remains committed to ensuring justice for the victim.
