Ekiti Abduction Arrests: Police detain suspects over alleged kidnapping and assault of LCDA chairman and another victim in Ekiti State
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged conspiracy, abduction and assault of Ekiti West Local Council Development Area Chairman, Rufus Ige Olorunfemi, and one Funso Ajayi in Ikere-Ekiti.

Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the arrests in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, following a directive from Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael for a full investigation into the incident.
According to the statement, the alleged attack occurred on June 3, 2026, at about 21:00 hours along Anoye Street, Ikere-Ekiti, when three Hilux vehicles reportedly carrying armed men in camouflage intercepted the council chairman and Funso Ajayi before whisking them away.
The suspects allegedly took the victims to a compound linked to a forthcoming governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Wole Oluyede, where they were reportedly assaulted before being released.
The Ekiti Abduction Arrests have triggered further investigations, with police confirming that three suspects have so far been apprehended while efforts are ongoing to arrest others still at large.
Authorities say all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael urged residents to remain calm and warned political actors and supporters against actions that could escalate tensions or incite violence.
He assured the public that the command would ensure justice while maintaining professionalism, fairness and respect for human rights throughout the investigation.

The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, stressing that no effort would be spared in uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and assault.
