Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro empowerment initiative is creating a major buzz in Lagos as the club unveils an ambitious community development drive aimed at transforming the lives of more than 64 artisans across various trades.

The groundbreaking event, themed Community Economic Development (Empowerment) Programme, aligns with Rotary International’s global mission of advancing economic growth and community resilience.

The launch takes place on Saturday, 1 November 2025, at St. George’s Girls Primary School, 123 Awolowo Road, Falomo, Ikoyi, with the club’s United President, Rotarian Alex Chukwu, set to flag off the ceremony at noon.

Rotary International, a worldwide humanitarian organisation with over 1.4 million members, focuses on promoting peace, eradicating disease, providing clean water, supporting education, and strengthening local economies.

The organisation stands as a beacon of service, bridging global goodwill through community-driven action.

For over 20 years, the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro has championed this mission with remarkable results.

The club has delivered major impact projects, including empowerment programmes for correctional centre inmates, educational scholarships for students, and a general hospital renovation valued at N100 million.

This latest empowerment wave targets artisans such as tailors, hairdressers, make-up artists, barbers, caterers, bakers, decorators, welders, and vulcanisers.

Each beneficiary will receive practical support designed to boost their trade capacity and financial independence.

According to the club, the initiative will ignite a new phase of economic empowerment within the Ikoyi community by fostering self-reliance, business growth, and sustainable livelihoods among small-scale entrepreneurs.
