Waje reveals she was unpaid for her vocals on P-Square’s 2007 hit ‘Do Me,’ despite the song introducing her voice to millions of fans

Waje unpaid for P-Square’s Do Me Nigerian singer Waje has disclosed that she never received any payment for her vocals on P-Square’s 2007 hit track ‘Do Me’, the song that first brought her powerful voice to national attention.

The 45-year-old singer made the revelation during her appearance on The HonestBunch Podcast, where she reflected on her early career struggles and the lack of recognition that followed her breakout performance.

“I didn’t earn a dime from P-Square’s ‘Do Me’,” she said.

Waje, whose full name is Aituaje Iruobe, was the soulful female voice that carried the song’s iconic chorus, yet she was neither officially featured nor credited when the track was released.

She recounted how difficult it was to convince people she was the voice behind the popular tune.

“Imagine being in Onitsha market and telling people, ‘that’s my voice,’ whenever Do Me is played, and they look at you like, ‘who are you?’ They didn’t believe me,” she lamented.

The singer also revealed she was left out of the music video because she lacked a valid passport at the time the visuals were shot abroad.

Do Me, which appeared on P-Square’s third studio album, Game Over, went on to become one of the biggest Nigerian pop hits of the mid-2000s and a defining moment in Afropop history.

Despite the setback, Waje has since built a respected career as one of Nigeria’s most gifted vocalists, known for her powerhouse performances and soulful artistry.
