Wema Bank’s Hackaholics 6.0 ideathon empowers Nigerian youth, fostering innovation, mentorship, and entrepreneurship across campuses nationwide

Wema Bank, Nigeria’s most innovative bank and pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, continues to champion youth innovation and entrepreneurship through its flagship campus ideathon, Hackaholics 6.0.

This year, the Hackaholics train has toured four Nigerian cities, including the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, the University of Ibadan (UI), and Purple Academy, Lagos.

The initiative brings together bright young minds from across Sub-Saharan Africa to create practical solutions to real-world challenges.

With over 3,000 entries submitted so far, participants at each location have benefited from industry-led masterclasses, mentorship, and ideation sessions, culminating in high-energy final pitches.

Winning teams, including a women-led group and two Hackathon teams, earn the chance to compete at the Hackaholics 6.0 Grand Finale, with opportunities to scale their solutions through Wema Bank’s innovation ecosystem.

Speaking on the initiative, Moruf Oseni, MD/CEO of Wema Bank, stated:

“Hackaholics has always been about more than technology. It is about empowering young people to think differently, create boldly, and contribute solutions that can move our industry and nation forward. The innovative ideas and solutions coming out of the participants have the power to shape the future of financial services and beyond, and we are excited to see them come to life.”

Since its launch in 2019, Hackaholics has become a cornerstone of youth engagement and innovation in Nigeria.

The program has attracted over 12,000 applicants from 15 schools, disbursed over $300,000 in funding, including ₦75 million awarded to women-led teams between 2023 and 2024, and consistently created a vibrant ecosystem for students, innovators, and early-stage founders.

As the Hackaholics 6.0 train continues to travel to more cities ahead of the Grand Finale, Wema Bank reiterates its commitment to empowering the next generation of Nigerian innovators.
