Kwara church abduction sees bandits demand N100m ransom per victim after 38 worshippers kidnapped and five killed at CAC Eruku

Bandits who abducted 38 worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, have reportedly demanded N100 million ransom for each victim, sources told Blueprint.

The attack occurred on Tuesday, 18 November, while church members were holding a service.

Five people were killed during the raid, and 38 others were taken away by the gunmen.

Chief Olusegun Olukotun, a community leader and Olori Eta of Eruku, said four of his relatives were among those abducted.

He explained that he and another ward managed to escape the attack through a church window around 6:06 p.m.

“From what we gathered from the kidnappers’ camp, they have grouped the victims according to their relations and are now contacting families through each of the groups. Some people in the community have received calls from the kidnappers demanding N100 million for each person,” Olukotun said.

He added that he had not yet received any calls regarding his own relatives and is still awaiting information.

Authorities and security agencies have yet to provide updates on rescue efforts or negotiations. The incident has heightened concerns over the rising insecurity in Kwara and neighbouring states, particularly attacks on places of worship.
