INEC condemns a fake letter on PDP and Ekiti primary, warning the public and pursuing prosecution of those behind the forgery

The Independent National Electoral Commission has disowned a forged letter circulating online regarding an alleged resolution of the Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee meeting and the postponement of the Ekiti congress and governorship primary.

In a firm rebuttal issued on Friday in Abuja, INEC condemns the document as fake and warned the public against falling for the misinformation.

Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi, Director of Voter Education and Publicity, said the commission’s attention was drawn to the correspondence, dated 10 November, and falsely attributed to the office of the Secretary to the Commission.

She stressed that the document did not originate from any official INEC channel.

According to her, preliminary investigations revealed that the signature of the Secretary was forged by individuals intent on misleading political parties, the media and the wider public.

She described the act as a deliberate and disruptive attempt to sow confusion ahead of electoral activities.

INEC labelled the forgery a serious electoral offence, noting that such actions undermine public trust and the nation’s democratic process.

Eta-Messi appealed to those behind the misinformation to desist immediately, adding that the commission would not tolerate any attempt to erode electoral integrity.

She confirmed that the commission is working closely with security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators in accordance with the law.
