Adeleke’s negative break from PDP deepens leadership crisis

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke resigns from the PDP over a leadership crisis, deepening uncertainty ahead of the 2026 governorship election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Ede on Monday, confirmed his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party as internal leadership disputes intensified.

Adeleke disclosed the move on his verified Instagram page, stating that he submitted his resignation letter to party leaders in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on 4 November 2025.

The announcement marked Adeleke’s Negative Break From PDP, a development that further unsettled the party in a politically sensitive period.

Ademola Adeleke thanked party members for the trust they had placed in him during his rise from the Senate to the governorship.

He noted that the persistent national leadership turmoil left him with no viable path within the party. His message captured a tone of gratitude but also signalled frustration with the prolonged crisis.

Senior figures within the Osun PDP earlier indicated that Ademola Adeleke was unlikely to pursue the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the national disputes were resolved.

They expressed hope that a settlement recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission could persuade the governor to reconsider.

The situation has created apprehension among supporters, who fear the party could face deeper fractures ahead of the poll.

Party insiders believe that resolving the dispute swiftly is crucial to restoring stability and preventing further defections.

Ademola Adeleke’s resignation adds significant pressure on the national leadership, which has struggled for months to regain cohesion.

His departure, delivered without fanfare but with firm intent, underscores the heavy toll of the crisis on party unity.
