Nigerian Navy sea exercise Exercise EBI TORU kicks off in Warri to protect critical assets and enhance maritime security.

The Central Naval Command of Nigeria on Tuesday launched a sea exercise at the Nigerian Ports Authority jetty in Warri to safeguard critical national assets in the Niger Delta region.

The operation, code-named Exercise EBI TORU, aims to strengthen maritime security and support Nigeria’s oil production.

Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, Flag Officer Commanding the Central Naval Command, said the multi-domain exercise involves coordinated drills by naval and paramilitary units to protect infrastructure, combat piracy, and respond to emergencies at sea.

“The exercise represents yet another deliberate step by the Central Naval Command towards enhancing maritime security, strengthening inter-agency cooperation and ensuring the safety of lives and property within our maritime environment,” he said.

Ibrahim highlighted that the operation will include anti-smuggling operations, search and rescue drills, and protection of Nigeria’s maritime economic interests, noting that the sector contributes significantly to the country’s projected ₦38 trillion international trade.

He identified threats such as illegal fishing, marine pollution, arms and drug trafficking, crude oil theft, and sea robbery.

The Admiral emphasised that Exercise EBI TORU provides an opportunity to identify operational gaps, test capabilities, and prepare for the forthcoming CNS Annual Sea Inspection 2025 in Lagos.

A simulation showcasing narcotics seizures and pirate arrests was conducted during the exercise.

Ibrahim acknowledged the support of partner agencies, including the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigeria Police, and Nigeria Customs Service, urging participants to approach the exercise with professionalism to ensure the maritime domain remains secure.
