Dunamis-Icon completes a positive first-phase inspection of Edo facilities for the Niger Delta Games, confirming strong readiness for the regional event.

Dunamis-Icon Limited, Project Consultants of the Niger Delta Games, concluded the first phase of physical inspection and facility evaluation in Benin City on 5 December, just one day after Edo State received the hosting rights for the regional event.

The project management delegation toured key venues under the guidance of Desmond Amadin Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission.

Dunamis-Icon team leader Sir Itiako Ikpokpo said he was satisfied with the state’s sports infrastructure, describing Edo as a ready-made choice capable of accommodating more than 3,000 athletes, coaches, journalists and technical officials.

Ikpokpo praised the condition of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, promising that the consultancy team would support necessary renovations to enhance the competition experience.

He highlighted the stadium as a centrepiece of the Games and a symbol of the state’s commitment to sports development, calling it a powerful asset for the event.

He also commended the upkeep of the iconic Ogbe Stadium and confirmed that the University of Benin may host selected events to broaden local engagement.

He added that Dunamis-Icon would work with the state government and the university to improve facilities where needed.

Dunamis-Icon Limited holds the franchise rights to the Games, which aim to promote unity and integration across the Niger Delta while identifying promising youth athletes for national and international pathways.

The Niger Delta Development Commission serves as the prime sponsor, reflecting its strategic focus on youth engagement and human capital development.

The inspection tour began at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium after a meeting between Enabulele and the Sports Commission team.

Areas assessed included the main bowl, tartan track, state box, VIP lounges, ceremonial room, media studio and several indoor facilities.

Additional venues inspected were the Wire Road Sports Centre, the University of Benin Sports Complex and the Etete Sports Centre.

Enabulele was joined by Executive Directors Frank Ilaboya and Sabina Chikere, alongside Baldwin Bazuaye.
