Kogi APC Renaissance Forum backs the Tinubu anti-corruption drive, saying prosecutions cut across party lines and strengthen governance

The Kogi APC Renaissance Forum, a leading political group in Kogi State, on Tuesday publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anti-corruption campaign, describing the effort as fair, inclusive, and essential to Nigeria’s democratic and economic stability.

The forum said the Tinubu anti-corruption drive is not directed solely at opposition figures but extends to members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who are alleged to have committed financial crimes.

In a statement issued in Lokoja, the forum’s spokesperson, Adejo Emmanuel, said the administration had demonstrated a resolute commitment to accountability by allowing law enforcement agencies to pursue cases without partisan interference.

Adejo Emmanuel cited the ongoing prosecution of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegations of diversion and misappropriation of state funds, alongside other cases involving APC members.

He described corruption as one of Nigeria’s most persistent governance challenges, with damaging consequences for democracy, electoral credibility, social cohesion, and economic growth.

According to Adejo Emmanuel, decades of previous anti-corruption initiatives failed to deliver lasting change because of weak enforcement and political protection for influential figures.

He said the deeply entrenched nature of corruption, particularly among politically exposed persons, requires a tougher and more robust response than in the past.

The spokesperson added that President Tinubu had clearly separated partisan politics from governance, allowing investigators and prosecutors to carry out their duties without fear or favour.

Adejo Emmanuel said meaningful punishment remains central to deterring future abuses and restoring public confidence in government institutions.

“The fight against corruption in Nigeria demands a paradigm shift and bolder actions to confront its deep-rooted and complex nature,” Adejo Emmanuel said.

The forum urged Nigerians to support the current anti-corruption effort, warning that individuals who continue to engage in corrupt practices should expect to face the full weight of the law.
