The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the governor assented to the appropriation bill on Thursday, shortly after lawmakers concluded deliberations and passed it into law.

The signing came weeks after Governor Lawal presented an initial proposal of ₦861.3 billion to the legislature on December 4, seeking approval for the 2026 fiscal year.

During plenary, the House adopted the report of its Committee on Finance and Appropriation, which reviewed the estimates and recommended an upward revision to ₦871.337 billion.

Presenting the report, the committee chairman, Rilwanu Na-Gambo, said all Ministries, Departments and Agencies appeared before the panel to defend their budget proposals.

Na-Gambo disclosed that the committee observed a significant improvement in the revenue profile of most MDAs, describing the outlook as encouraging.

He said the lawmakers approved an additional ₦8 billion for capital expenditure in the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, alongside ₦2 billion added to the recurrent expenditure of the State House of Assembly.

Speaking after the bill was passed, Speaker Bilyaminu Isma’il said legislators aligned the budget with the strategic priorities of the Lawal administration.

He listed security, agriculture, health, education and infrastructure as key focus areas, adding that the spending plan was designed to reflect grassroots needs.

According to the Speaker, the budget framework emphasises equity, inclusion and balanced development across the state’s local government areas.
