APC signals Mutfwang defection as party chairman says Governor Caleb Mutfwang is set to join the APC in January 2026

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, on Monday evening in Jos, Plateau State, disclosed that the ruling party is preparing to receive Governor Caleb Mutfwang into its ranks in January 2026, signalling a major political realignment in the state.

Professor Yilwatda made the disclosure shortly after a Plateau State APC stakeholders’ meeting, saying the party would organise a colourful reception to mark Governor Mutfwang’s entry and to demonstrate that the state’s political structure would be firmly under APC control.

Addressing party leaders earlier at the meeting, the APC chairman said the expected defection would further galvanise and consolidate the party ahead of future electoral contests.

According to Professor Yilwatda, the APC remains open to all influential political actors willing to join its platform, stressing that inclusiveness is central to the party’s expansion strategy.

“I am interested in everybody that matters in this country who wants to join the APC,” he said, adding that his leadership would ensure the party wins elections “from top to bottom”.

The APC chairman also announced internal structural changes within the party, disclosing that existing executive councils nationwide have been dissolved and replaced with caretaker committees.

He said the caretaker committees would remain in place until March 2026, urging party members to regularise their status through the ongoing electronic registration exercise.

Professor Yilwatda emphasised that participation in the e-registration was necessary for members to be recognised as bona fide party faithful.

Also speaking at the gathering, Senator Simon Lalong, former Plateau State governor and leader of the APC in the state, praised party members for their resilience and steadfast support despite recent political developments.

Senator Lalong dismissed concerns among members over the unfolding situation, describing such fears as unnecessary and unfounded.

He assured party faithful that their loyalty would continue to be acknowledged and that members would remain fully involved in all political arrangements going forward.

In his welcome address, Honourable Rufus Bature, Plateau State Chairman of the APC, said party members would continue to respect the decisions of the party leadership in the overall interest of unity and growth.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Ambassador Danladi Wuyep, Chairman of the APC Council of Elders in Plateau State, expressed satisfaction with the strong turnout at the stakeholders’ meeting.

Ambassador Wuyep said he was confident that party members who had laboured tirelessly for the APC would receive due recognition as the party enters a decisive phase in the state’s political landscape.
