Sujimoto disputes ₦24m debt claim, says ex parte order was misleading, and deposits draft in court pending judicial determination

Sujimoto Construction Limited has disputed an alleged ₦24 million debt claim said to have led to an ex parte court order seeking to place the company under administration, describing the allegation as false and the process as misleading.

In a detailed statement, the company said a group of lawyers obtained the ex parte order on November 14, 2025, by presenting claims that Sujimoto was financially distressed and unable to meet its obligations.

Sujimoto Construction Limited said the claim is unfounded and that it has taken legal steps to challenge the order through due process.

Sujimoto Construction Limited stated that, without prejudice and strictly to prevent what it termed an abuse of process, the company has lodged a bank draft of ₦24 million with the court under protest, pending judicial determination of the dispute.

The company said motions filed by its legal team have suspended the purported powers of any administrator pending the court’s decision.

According to the statement, Sujimoto Construction Limited presented evidence to the court of payments exceeding ₦10 billion made to creditors, banks, private investors, and government agencies within the past 12 months to demonstrate operational stability and financial capacity.

The company added that it recently repaid ₦1.28 billion to the Enugu State Government over a separate disputed contract currently before the court, describing the action as part of its commitment to responsible corporate conduct.

Sujimoto Construction Limited also cited a 2024 to 2025 Triple BBB+ investment grade rating from DataPro and said its assets are valued at over ₦90 billion, with liabilities representing less than 10 per cent of total assets.

The firm alleged that the legal action was part of a broader attempt to misuse administration proceedings against viable businesses and said a formal petition has been initiated against individuals involved in the matter.

Sujimoto Construction Limited reaffirmed that it will defend its position in court and pursue legal remedies against what it described as false publications and reputational harm.
