Wike hails Tinubu, plans FCT 50 celebration at third anniversary

Nyesom Wike says the FCT 50 celebration will hold during President Tinubu’s third anniversary, unveiling a jubilee compendium in Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the FCT 50 celebration will take place during the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Wike disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja while meeting staff of the FCT Administration as part of activities marking the territory’s golden jubilee.

He said a committee would soon be inaugurated to plan both the FCT 50 celebration and Tinubu’s third anniversary, which comes up in about three months.

The minister said a special compendium documenting the history and progress of the FCT would be unveiled during the celebration.

Wike attributed recent transformation across the FCT to the support of President Tinubu, describing the progress as decisive and life changing.

He said infrastructural development had remained slow for years until Tinubu removed the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account, allowing access to commercial bank funding.

Wike said the policy shift enabled the execution of major projects across the territory and laid the foundation for visible development.

He added that FCT workers had also benefited under Tinubu, particularly through career progression to the rank of Permanent Secretary and Head of the FCT Civil Service.

Wike said no previous administration had created such advancement opportunities for FCT staff.

Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, said infrastructural achievements recorded in the last two and a half years were unprecedented in the 50 year history of the FCT.

Dauda said many inherited projects had been completed or brought to advanced stages due to the leadership of the current FCT Administration.

He disclosed that nine projects were inaugurated during Tinubu’s first anniversary in 2024 and 17 projects in 2025.

Dauda expressed confidence that the FCT 50 celebration could coincide with the inauguration of up to 50 projects since Wike assumed office in August 2023.
