Shettima visits Kwara after the Woro village attack, conveying condolences and pledging federal action to bring perpetrators to justice

Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Kwara State on Saturday to visit Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area following the Woro village attack that left 75 residents dead.

Stany Nkwocha, media aide to the vice president, said the visit was directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for an on-the-ground assessment and to convey federal condolences to grieving families.

“The President has directed that the vice president assess the situation firsthand and convey federal condolences to the grieving families,” Nkwocha said.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other state officials received the vice president on arrival.

Governor AbdulRazaq had earlier described the victims as local Muslims “massacred for refusing to submit to extremists preaching a strange doctrine,” while initial reports suggested the death toll exceeded 100.

According to officials, the attack occurred on Tuesday night after militants allegedly attempted to forcibly indoctrinate members of the community and were resisted.

Nkwocha added that the vice president departed Abuja with assurances from the president that the Federal Government would pursue justice for the victims.

“VP Shettima is conveying President Tinubu’s strong assurances that the Federal Government will not relent until those responsible are tracked, apprehended, and brought to justice,” Nkwocha said.

President Tinubu had earlier condemned the attacks on Woro and Nuku communities, describing the assailants’ actions as “cowardly and beastly,” and confirmed that military operations were underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

The president announced the deployment of an Army battalion under Operation Savannah Shield to protect vulnerable communities and confront the attackers.
