Held along the Matan Fada River, the festival’s highlight—the mass fishing competition—saw hundreds of fishermen dive into the waters at the sound of a horn, wielding traditional nets and calabashes.

Contestants competed not only against one another but against time, as spectators cheered from the riverbanks while contestants wrestled giant fish, displaying skill, endurance, and ancestral techniques passed down through generations.

The 2026 edition also featured canoe racing, thrilling spectators as sleek wooden boats navigated the currents in tightly contested heats.
