Plateau herdsmen poisoning reported as Fulani group claims Irigwe youths killed eight cows and attacked herders in Miango district

The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) has reported the alleged poisoning of eight cows and attacks on herders by local Irigwe youths in the Dan Tanko and Zogu communities of Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 18 February 2026.

According to GAFDAN, a group described as local ethnic militias confronted the herders during routine grazing activities, prompting them to flee for safety.

The youths allegedly then placed poisoned fruits on the grazing fields, resulting in the deaths of eight cows.

The association stated that the recent deaths bring the total number of livestock lost in similar attacks since January to 32.

GAFDAN criticised the ongoing aggression, saying their community has consistently refrained from taking the law into their own hands and relied on security agencies for protection.

“This unprovoked aggression on herders and their cows has been recurring across several communities in the state. Whenever our people react, we are labelled as the aggressors,” the statement read. “We have continued to advise patience, but how long must this injustice continue?”

GAFDAN urged authorities to intervene promptly to prevent further incidents and protect both herders and their livestock.
