Sodiq Adebayo shares how Oga Bello’s words inspired his move into production management in Nollywood

Nollywood production manager Sodiq Adebayo has revealed how a candid conversation with his father, veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, shaped his decision to pursue a career in film production management.

Speaking during an interview on Nollywood on Radio, Sodiq Adebayo recounted a defining moment that occurred during a trip to Ilorin with his father and the late Alhaji Rasheed.

According to Adebayo, he had asked his father which aspect of filmmaking he found most challenging.

Oga Bello reportedly mentioned directing, particularly the technical components, before suggesting that production management might be even more demanding.

However, what lingered in Sodiq Adebayo’s mind was his father’s assumption that he might not be suited for the role.

“He said maybe production management, but he assumed it was not something I could do,” Adebayo explained.

“That stayed with me because I wondered why he would think I couldn’t do it.”

Encouraged by the late Alhaji Rasheed, who insisted he could be guided, Adebayo said curiosity and determination pushed him to explore the field further.

He subsequently understudied respected production manager Lasun Ray Eyiwunmi and sought mentorship from his brother, Femi Adebayo, before fully committing to the craft.

The Sodiq Adebayo career inspiration story reflects a journey driven more by passion than financial ambition.

He noted that his interest in production management stemmed from a desire to understand the mechanics behind filmmaking rather than to pursue fame.

Although he briefly attempted acting, Adebayo admitted that his temperament made life behind the camera more appealing.

“I am the shy type. I always wanted to be behind the screen and not in front,” he said, despite being the son of one of Nollywood’s most respected actors.

Today, Adebayo has carved a distinct identity within the industry, stepping out of his father’s shadow through technical expertise and dedication.

His journey underscores the quiet but powerful influence of mentorship, family dynamics and personal conviction in shaping career choices within Nigeria’s thriving film sector.
