Obi Cubana apology Igbo remarks follows backlash, as businessman clarifies comments and expresses regret over misunderstood statement

The Obi Cubana apology Igbo remarks controversy stems from comments made during a City Boy Movement event in Enugu, where the entrepreneur spoke about the need for greater understanding of political structures and governance at the national level.

The remarks, which quickly went viral, drew criticism from many who interpreted them as dismissive of the political consciousness of the Igbo people.

In a recent interview, Obi Cubana clarified that his comments had been taken out of context, explaining that only a brief portion of his longer speech was circulated online.

“What I said about Igbos lacking knowledge was misconstrued. I spoke for about three minutes but only 10 seconds of my speech was shared,” he said.

Obi Cubana emphasised that his intention was not to insult the community but to encourage deeper engagement with political systems, particularly at the federal level, which he believes could benefit the region.

He added that his comments were aimed at promoting structured political education rather than criticising the intelligence or capacity of his people.

The businessman also expressed regret over the reaction his remarks generated, acknowledging the sensitivity of the issue and apologising to those who felt offended.

“I am sorry to anyone that feels offended by what I said,” he stated.

The incident has sparked intense online debate, with some critics maintaining that the comments were inappropriate, while others accepted the clarification and apology.

Observers say the episode highlights the powerful influence of social media in shaping public perception, particularly when short video clips are shared without full context.
