Senate committee chair Titus Zam denies Natasha claim

Akpoti-Uduaghan Umahi arrest dispute draws call for calm and dialogue as senator urges lawful resolution over Tracy Ohiri controversy

The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Friday called for calm, dialogue and strict respect for due process following the arrest of Tracy Nicholas Ohiri in a dispute reportedly linked to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

In a public statement issued amid growing national attention, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged restraint as the controversy continued to generate intense debate across social media and public platforms.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed appreciation to Nigerians who voiced concern over the development, describing civic engagement as a vital pillar of democratic accountability.

The lawmaker stated that no citizen should face intimidation or coercion for speaking out, particularly in matters involving allegations of harassment or misconduct.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan added that safeguarding dignity and justice remained essential to sustaining public trust in institutions.

Calling for a constructive resolution, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan appealed directly to Minister Umahi to engage Tracy Ohiri in good faith discussions aimed at peacefully resolving the disagreement.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan further disclosed plans to personally engage both parties upon her return to Abuja, noting that any resolution must be guided by justice, fairness and adherence to the rule of law.

The intervention follows a firm denial by Minister Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, who rejected allegations that security operatives were deployed to intimidate Mrs Ohiri over claims relating to unpaid campaign obligations.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the minister maintained that police authorities acted within constitutional limits after receiving a formal petition submitted through legal channels.

According to the statement, law enforcement officials invited both parties for questioning as part of routine investigative procedure.

Public interest in the matter intensified after a viral video circulated online in which Tracy Ohiri alleged assault and non-payment for campaign materials linked to past political activities.

As discussions continue nationwide, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s intervention introduces a stabilising legislative voice to mounting calls for transparency, accountability and a lawful resolution of the dispute.
